Yes from around 1850 till 1900 over 200 factories were on the go in bradford, the city was one of the richest in europe, now its just an immigration shithole. Whatever you mention in this video sadly cannot get away with the fact that bradford has gone under, we all know the reason why! Its so bizzare though to still see evidence of its amazing past sadly sat in awful parts of the city

I find it very sad and hard to swallow, seeing Slough like this. I lived in this area from 79-2017 and spent so many great times in a thriving high street. Could literally spend all day there with so many decent shops and local sightseeing. I remember when big supermarkets opened and the high street started to die off. Lots of trouble and crime. My childhood was great, this is simply heartbreaking.

That last flat was an absolute disgrace, someone should be taken to court for allowing that to be sold for that price.

It really simple 40 years ago London shops had a monopoly on a footfall of reasonably wealthy people. Local councils cashed in by pushing business rates higher and higher in the belief they had a monopoly on taxing the shops. The politicians took another bite by introducing minimum wages then trebling them in 20 years. Then they added to it with compulsory pension schemes. The market was then undermined by suppliers on the internet based in out of town locations that could supply goods from a lower cost base. Even if someone gave you a shop for free the cost of the rates and wages means what ever business you have has to generate thousand of pounds of sale a week (less 20% VAT another tax) just to stand still. There are a limited number of such businesses and of them most of them can be organised online. to top it all Gordon Brown changed the law so now the shops pay rates whether occupied or not

Amazon warehouses are very busy 24/7 and I can see more Amazon delivery trucks on the street here in Miami than birds flying in the sky

These days everything in considered in numbers only. Back in the day people appear to have had pride in theor creations. Its not just architecture dominating by brutalism, a bean counters idea of beauty. Look at the ford Ghia interior in the 70s and 80s, compared to later Ghia badges ford cars which are merely badge engineering.

The house with the subsidence. You see this in Southport too, not far down the coast. Houses for sale 'cash only'. Those houses are no longer fit for purpose. The only thing to be done is demolition and reconstruction using a subsidence-proof design, eg ferroconcrete raft.

that george shopping centre is in Grantham 35 miles away from nottingham! lincolns closer yo nottingham than that. no wonder i never heard of it

To me, even a well kept (and lived in) typical Yorkshire stone house, looks a bit barren, because they do not have the typical decoration of stone houses, were you frame the stone areas with e.g. corner chain, socket, window framing, roof moulding (i do not know if that is the correct terms). But i guess it is a very good way to build in the rainy climate, with long maintence-free life, no problems with rot, molds, you do not even need to paint it.. So it looks like quality houses but i guess you did not do anything fancy with a house on the uplands...
